TETRAGRAM FOR GATHERING
Art, technology and the post-internet dawn from Stockholm, London and New York.
An exhibition curated by Paul Purgas and Joe Coppard at Detroit Stockholm.
JAMES HOWARD / JIMMY MERRIS / JOSEPH WALLER / LUCKY_PDF / ANNA LUNDH
TETRAGRAM FOR GATHERING explores contemporary art in the ‘post-internet’ era; an emerging cultural state in which the initial dreams of a networked society have been replaced by a more practical understanding of the systems strengths and failures.
Themes of nostalgia, intrigue and optimism are touched upon, with the contributing artists rejecting simplistic celebrations of technological process in favour of a multi-layered culturally and technically engaged vision, investigating aspects of pop culture, economic critique and the pursuit of esoteric and cryptic languages.
Curated by London/Stockholm curatorial partnership Joe Coppard and Paul Purgas.
With great thanks to Marie O'connor and Pernilla Rozenberg.
Live audio-visual performances on the opening night by contributing artists - flown in specially from Peckham, London.
14th - 18th May 2011
Detroit Gallery, Roslagsgatan 21 Stockholm, Sweden
Official after party at Marie Laveau in collaboration with London/Stockholm collective Top Nice.
